As a specialist for patent matters of all types, Jochen Wächter has many years of experience in managing IP portfolios of German mid-size companies and assisting foreign clients in registering and enforcing patents in Europe. His strengths are quick comprehension and the ability to realistically assess patent law and business aspects and develop appropriate recommendations for his clients.

His technical expertise ranges from mechanical engineering and medical devices to applied physics. In addition to drafting patent applic­ations and assisting with examination proced­ures at the patent offices, he also has many years of experience in patent disputes such as opposition proceedings and revocation and infringement actions. Other main areas of his practice are optimizing territorial application strategies and advising clients on German law on employee inventions.

Jochen represents his clients personally before the European Patent Office, the German Patent and Trade Mark Office and the Federal Patent Court, and can file international PCT applica­tions at the World Intellectual Property Organiz­ation. In addition to his expertise in intellectual property rights in Germany and Europe, he also has detailed knowledge in US patent law, acquired during a year of employment at a law firm in New York.
